The Sunday Goose

The Sunday Goose, a progressive rock band from the Netherlands, was originally founded in 2009 by keyboardist Bram van Risp, who wanted to set up a progressive rock project.

Van Risp came into contact with Marc Lamp, drummer of the Dutch indie band Claw Boys Claw and also a big fan of progressive rock music. Together with Lamp's old musical partner Ly (Bitchcock, Dash Dot and Max), they started composing and recording material. Van Risp then invited Hans Gerritse (Nice Beaver, King Eider) to join as guitarist. As a quartet, they composed several songs, most of which were initiated by Ly, whose strong lyrics and melodies formed the basis for the band to create longer and more challenging songs. The group changed their name to The Sunday Goose, inspired by one of their own early compositions, Fixing the Sunday Goose. With a full repertoire of original songs and a strong chemistry, The Sunday Goose took to the stage and performed several times in the Netherlands during 2009.

In 2010, the band decided to record a first album. The initial sessions took place at Studio The Pitt, under the direction of Ruud Rijnbeek and Gerben Klazinga (Knight Area). However, the band then opted for a different approach and mixed the material themselves in Van Risp's home studio. The process became a creative journey in itself: new ideas emerged, additional tracks – instrumental and vocal – were composed and recorded, turning the songs into progressive gems. In 2014, the album was finally fully recorded and mixed. After professional mastering by Peer Rave, it was ready for release. Despite their progress, personal circumstances and the long production time ultimately led to the band breaking up – and the album, titled Where My Heart Lies, remained unreleased.

In 2025, after more than ten years, the original members reunited. With renewed enthusiasm and a shared sense of unfinished business, they decided to finally share their long-lost debut with the world. Initially, the album was only released digitally on all major streaming platforms, but due to the many positive reactions from both the press and progressive rock enthusiasts, it was decided to release the album on CD after all. In collaboration with Dutch progressive rock label FREIA Music, the CD will be released on 9 April 2026.
